Prof. Dr. Swen Bäuml

Prof. Swen Bäuml, a qualified Tax Advisor/Commercial Lawyer, previously worked at the auditing firm KPMG (Head of Family Office Services), where he was responsible for consulting on matters relating to family office services since 2012. Prior to that, he ran the tax department at Boehringer Ingelheim’s Family Office for six years as Head of Tax. Mr Bäuml is a proven specialist in the taxation of family businesses, their shareholders as well as structuring and tax issues at family offices. He specializes in particular in advising on business and asset succession and tax-optimized asset structuring, particularly in consideration of investment and inheritance tax issues.
In addition to his consultancy services, Prof. Bäuml also works as a professor of Tax Law at the University of Applied Sciences in Mainz, Germany, and the Frankfurt School of Finance & Management. He is also a much sought-after expert and speaker for the German Tax Institute (DWS), among others, and worked as an investment tax expert on the German Bundestag’s Financial Committee. He is also known as the author of numerous specialist publications, including publications on Inheritance Tax law, Investment Tax Law (e.g. the commentary by Berger, Steck and Lübbehüsen on the German Investment Act (InvG) and Investment Tax Act (InvStG)) as well as Transformation Tax and Corporate Tax Law (e.g. the commentary by Kraft, Edelmann and Bron on German Transformation Tax Law or the Tax Group Handbook by Prinz and Witt). He is also the co-editor of the major commentary by Kanzler, Kraft and Bäuml on German Income Tax Law and the specialist journal NWB-Wirtschafts- und Steuerrecht.
